La charla "Cosmic Queuing: galaxy satellites, building blocks, and the hierarchical clustering paradigm", será dictada por Nelson Padilla, Universidad Católica. Abstract: "I will present recent results on the expected properties of satellites and building-blocks of present-day galaxies within a hierarchical galaxy formation scenario. Our simulation includes an ensemble of hundreds of milky way-type galaxies which we compare to the most up-to-date compilations of metallicity measurements for the Milky Way and its satellites. A hierarchical model naturally reproduces the observational results regardless of the physical processes included in the evolution of galaxies. Even bizarre cases with no SN explosions or supermassive black holes are able to produce viable milky way systems, as long as building blocks form faster and earlier than satellites (the queuing). The latter is typical of a hierarchical universe". Fecha: 15 de mayo. Horario: 16:00 hrs. Lugar: Sala de Conferencias 3er piso, Cerro Calán, Las Condes. Entrada: Liberada.
